Each year, the DongGang Photography Award honors a photographer for their contributions to the development of Korean photography through dedicated artistic practice and has played a role in introducing Korean photography to international audiences. The recipient is selected each year through a rigorous review process conducted by professionals in the field.
This year’s recipient, Seoungwon Won, has consistently demon-strated the expanded potential of photography as a medium—striking a balance between photographic indexicality and artistic expression. She creates digitally composited prints by transforming and recombining multiple photographs she takes herself. Through this process, she constructs new scenes drawn from memory and imagination. Her unique and intricate photo collages—blending reality and fantasy—are significant in how they use digital techniques to evoke a sense of analog nostalgia. Won’s artistic evolution has only deepened over time, and she was selected for the award in recognition of her capacity to contribute to both the contemporary discourse and the future trajectory of Korean photography.
This exhibition presents a comprehensive survey of the artist’s practice, encompassing works from her early career to recent projects. Layer upon layer builds intricate, imagined worlds—where her singular visual sensibility weaves unexpected elements into evocative new narratives.

동강국제사진제 수상자전은 ‘동강사진상’ 수상자의 최고 작품들을 선보이는 전시이다. ‘동강사진상’은 성실한 창작 활동으로 국내 사진 발전에 기여하고, 한국사진을 해외에 널리 알린 국내 사진가를 선정하여 수여하는 국내 최고 영예의 사진상으로, 매년 사진계 전문가들의 엄정한 심사를 거쳐 수상자를 선정하고 있다.
올해 수상자인 작가 ‘원성원’은 확장된 사진의 매체적 가능성을 보여주며 사진의 지표성과 예술적 표현 모두를 충족하는 작업을 선보여 왔다. 작가는 직접 촬영한 여러 장의 개별 이미지에 디지털 기술을 접목하여 변형 및 재조합함으로써 디지털 ‘조합 인화’ 사진을 제작하고, 이를 통해 기억이나 상상 속 새로운 장면을 구성한다. 이 현실과 공상이 뒤섞인 독특하고 섬세한 사진 콜라쥬 작업은 디지털 기술을 통해 아날로그 감성을 도출한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 초기 작업보다 더욱 공고해진 예술적 발전 양상과 더불어 한국 사진의 동시대성과 미래 지향적 방향성 설정에 기여할 수 있는 인물이라 판단되어 수상자로 선정되었다.
이번 전시는 작가의 초기작부터 최근작까지 총망라하여 구성하였다. 수많은 레이어가 중첩되어 만들어진 세상 이야기와 작가의 남다른 상상력으로 흥미롭게 병치·결합된 다양한 이미지가 허구적 세계 속 새로운 내러티브를 빚어낸다.

세계를 무대로 동시대 사진예술의 흐름을 파악하여 국내 사진 문화의 발전과 도약을 도모하고자 기획된 동강국제사진제의 대표 전시이다. 예술적 실험 정신과 시대정신이 교차하는 세계 사진예술의 최전선을 선보이는 동시에 한국 사진 문화의 지향점을 제시하는 상징적 의미를 담고 있다. 올해 전시는 대한민국 최초 공립 사진 전문 박물관인 동강사진박물관의 개관 20주년 기념 아카이브 특별전과 연계하여 기획하였다. ‘Museum Project’를 주제로 오랜 세월 축적해 온 인류의 여러 유산을 전시함으로써 역사를 후대에 전승하는 박물관의 역할과 가치를 일깨우고자 하였다.
전시는 동강사진박물관의 지난 20여 년간의 기록을 다채롭게 풀어내며, 세계 최초 사진박물관인 미국 ‘George Eastman Museum’의 설립 배경을 비롯한 1852년에 설립된 이탈리아의 'Alinari'의 소장품을 함께 선보인다. 아울러 현대사진미술을 대표하는 ‘토마스 스트루트’의 연작 <Audiences>과 유머러스한 흑백 이미지로 유명한 '엘리엇 어윗'의 <Museum Watching>, 그리고 '구본창'이 전 세계 박물관에 소장된 한국의 대표적인 <백자>들을 작가의 현대적인 시선으로 담아낸 사진 작품들을 전시합니다.

The Museum Project is the festival’s flagship exhibition, designed to engage with the global currents of contemporary photography while deepening Korea’s own photographic discourse. Positioned at the intersection of artistic experi-mentation and the cultural zeitgeist, the exhibition represents the leading edge of international photographic trends and the future of Korean photography.
This year’s edition commemorates the 20th anniversary of the DongGang Museum of Photography—the first public photography museum in Korea—through a special archival exhibition. Presented under the theme Museum Project, the exhibition features a diverse array of humanity’s heritage and reflects on the museum’s role as a custodian of history and its mission to carry that legacy forward. The exhibition revisits the museum’s 20-year archive, present-ing key moments from its history. It also introduces the founding context and early exhibitions of the world’s first photography museum, the George Eastman Museum, alongside other works from Alinari, the Italian photographic archive founded in 1852. Additional highlights include Thomas Struth’s renowned body of works Audiences, Elliott Erwitt’s Museum Watching, celebrated for its humorous black-and-white imagery, and a selection of photographs by Bohnchang Koo capturing iconic Korean baekja (white porcelain) held in museums around the world, reinterpreted through the artist’s contemporary gaze.

각국 사진가들의 다채로운 사진 세계를 통해 현대 사진의 정체성을 확인할 수 있는 기획전이다. 올해 주제는 ‘기민한 공상’으로 총 77개국에서 5,750개의 작품이 공모되었고, 이 중 최종 선정된 19인의 작품이 전시된다. ‘미적 대상화’란 인간이 특정 대상을 ‘미(美’)적인 관점에서 바라보고 해석하는 과정을 뜻한다. 이는 자연경관에서 일상 사물에 이르기까지 다양한 형태로 나타난다.
사람들은 대상화 과정에서 사물에 대한 자신의 감정과 해석을 가미하여 사물에 새로운 의미와 가치를 부여하는데, 이때 각자의 사고가 작용하고, ‘새롭게 바라보는’ 과정 속 ‘보는 것’과 ‘아는 것’ 사이에서 발생하는 다양한 차이를 인식한다. 현재 우리가 삶을 영위하는 세계는 다양한 서사가 한데 어우러진 고차원의 입체적 세상이다. 결코 하나의 정의만을 내릴 수 없는 끊임없이 변화하는 유동성을 지닌 존재라 할 수 있겠다. 무엇을 더하고 덜어내는지에 따라 세상을 다양하게 변모한다. 이러한 과정은 우리의 상상력을 자극하여 새로운 공상을 불러일으키고, 우리의 사고 영역을 확장하여 새로운 창의적 아이디어의 발판을 마련한다.
따라서 이번 전시를 통해 고전적 담론에서 벗어나 이미지 본질을 파고드는 나만의 고유한 시선으로 개인적인 공상을 펼쳐 보길 바란다.

This curated exhibition explores the identity of contemporary photography through the diverse visual worlds of photo-graphers from around the globe. Under this year’s theme, Agile Imagination, the competition received 5,750 submissions from 77 countries. Nineteen finalists have been selected for the exhibition. Aesthetic objectification refers to the act of perceiving and interpreting a subject through the lens of beauty. This process manifests in many forms—from natural landscapes to every-day objects.
As individuals filter the object through personal emotion and interpretation, they assign new meaning and value to it. It's in this act of “seeing anew” that the tension between what we see and what we know becomes perceptible, revealing subtle and subjective differences. We live in a multi-dimensional world shaped by overlapping narratives—fluid, shifting, and resistant to singular definition. What we choose to add or subtract alters how we perceive it, transforming reality itself. Such processes stimulate the imagination, inviting fresh speculation and expanding our cognitive horizons. They create the conditions for new, generative ideas to emerge—fueled by the collision between reality and imagined possibility.
This exhibition invites you to move beyond classical discourse and explore the essence of images through your own distinct gaze—unleashing personal visions and imaginative reflection.

영월에 거주하는 사진작가가 영월의 주민의 생활의 모습과 영월의 아름다움을 생생하게 기록한다. 영월의 과거, 현재 그리고 미래를 사진으로 담아낸 기록적인 전시이다. 영월, 藝人은 영월을 중심으로 각 분야에서 예술 활동을 하는 지역 예술가들이 공존하고 향유하고 지속적인 활동을 사진으로 표현하고자 한다. 영월 거주 사진가들의 시선으로 비친 영월 군민들의 생활상과 영월의 아름다움을 생생하게 기록하고 하나하나의 세월이 쌓여 만들어낸 현재가 그려갈 미래를 상상하고, 더 밝은 내일을 바라보는 희망을 심기 위해 촬영을 한다. 영월 군민 사진가는 “우리 동네는 우리가 만들고, 가꾸어 나간다”는 생각을 가진 영월의 예술가들의 모습을 촬영하고 기록한 전시이다.
이번 전시는 공모를 통해 선정된 강원특별자치도를 대표하는 2인의 작가가 애정 어린 시선으로 탐구한 삶의 기록을 선보인다. 지역 내재된 특유의 아름다움과 그 안의 생명들이 갖는 의미, 지역과 자기 스스로의 존재감을 공유하는 사람들이 이야기 속에서 삶을 영위하는 터전과 관련하여 어떤 가치를 깨달아 가야 하는지 그들만의 재치로 재미있게 풀어낸다.

This exhibition invites photographers who are either from or currently residing in Gangwon State. Through their records of daily life in the region, it becomes a platform that links the past, present, and future of Gangwon and offers a glimpse into the evolving direction of photography in the province.
This year, two photographers are featured including one Gangwon State Photographer 2025. This year’s exhibition documents life in Gangwon through a lens of affection and insight. The participating photographers offer thoughtful, often witty reflections on the land and its people highlighting the region’s unique beauty, the significance of its living ecosystems, and a growing awareness of the value of living in close relationship with one’s surroundings.

전시는 거리 설치 형식으로 진행되어 ‘사진의 고장’ 영월의 문화콘텐츠를 대내외적으로 알리는 공공 전시 개념을 포괄한다.
이번 전시는 사진의 추상적 표현에 몰두한 사진가 중 전문가들의 추천을 받아 선정된 작가들의 작품이 선보인다. 영월의 역사와 문화적 정체성을 재조명하는 동시에 진취적인 그들의 실험 정신과 독창적 시각을 펼쳐낸다.

The Street Installation Exhibition is a distinctive feature of the DongGang International Photo Festival that transforms the main streets of Yeongwol into an open gallery space, showcasing works in the form of public art.
This year’s exhibitors were chosen from photographers who focus on abstract expressions in photography, selected through recommendations by photography experts. The street installation-style exhibition aims to shed new light on the historical and cultural identity of Yeongwol through the adventurous spirit of experimentation and unique photographic perspectives of the selected artists.
The adopts a public art format to make photography more accessible to the residents of Yeongwol, which has established itself as a ‘photography town.’ This approach also aims to promote Yeongwol’s cultural content both locally and internationally.

보도사진전은 국내외로 활발히 활동하고 있는 포토저널 리스트들의 주요 작품을 소개하는 전시이다. 올해는 특별기획으로 지난 2024년에 타계한 사진가 손홍주를 기리는 의미에서 기획된 특별전이다. 사진가 손홍주(1963-2024)는 前 동강사진마을운영위원으로 2015년부터 지난 해까지 보도사진가전의 책임위원을 역임했다.
1995년부터 매거진 2024년까지 ‘씨네 21’에서 활동하면서 특유의 유쾌함으로 다양한 작품을 촬영하였다. 이번 전시는 생전 그가 카메라로 담아낸 수많은 이의 얼굴을 선보인다. 그만의 시각으로 비춘 카메라 너머의 세상과 그 안에 어린 따스함을 만나보는 기회가 될 것이다.

The Photo Journalists Exhibition is a showcase of notable photojournalists' works, both domestic and international. This year’s special memorial exhibition honors the late photographer Hongjoo Son(1963–2024), who passed away last year. A former member of the DongGang Photo Village Operating Committee, Son served as one of the senior curators of the Photojournalists Exhibition from 2015 to 2024.
Since 1995, he had worked with Cine21 magazine, capturing a wide range of subjects with his trademark wit and deep affection for people. This exhibition features a selection of portraits taken throughout his career—offering an intimate, humanizing view of the world through his eyes.

전국 초등학교 학생을 대상으로 진행한 공모전에서 선정된 작품을 전시한다.
어린이들이 직접 찍은 일상 속 사진으로 구성되는 이 전시는 어린이들의 순수한 시각과 동심이 지닌 특유의 감수성을 기제로 하여 우리 안에 내재된 동심의 단편을 일깨우는 데 의의가 있다.
아이들의 눈이 머물렀던 순간을 읽어가면서 다년간 잊고 지냈던 모습을 추억이라는 이름으로 함께 풀어가는 시간을 선사한다. 시간의 기록인 동시에 지나간 우리를 재발견하는 사진의 의미를 되새기며 힐링을 선물하고자 기획되었다.

Elementary School Photo Diary Exhibition showcases the photo diary entries created by school children.
These diary entries were selected from a myriad of submissions in a nationwide contest. Little fragments of funny ideas and child-like observations and sentiments will surely remind the viewers of their own childhood days. A photo is both a record and a path toward finding oneself.
When we follow the children’s vision, we arrive at a place where we once were as youngsters. seeing the world through a spontaneous and naive viewpoint is refreshing. it awakens the past that we have forgotten. The exhibition will a healing and self-reflecting journey into our own past.

영월군 9개 읍·면의 자활과 봉사 현장에서 살아가는 이들의 모습을 사진으로 담은 기록 전시이다. ‘따뜻한 내 손을 잡으세요’는 우리 곁에 있지만 종종 보이지 않았던 손길들을 조명하고, 그 따뜻한 마음을 지역사회와 나누기 위해 기획되었다. 자활 프로그램 참여자, 지역 봉사자, 실무자 등 다양한 인물들의 일상을 담아,‘돌봄’, ‘자립’, ‘헌신’이라는 키워드를 중심으로 공감과 연대의 메시지를 시각적으로 표현 하고자 한다.
이번 전시는 사진을 통해 봉사와 자활의 의미를 다시 바라보는 시간과 지역 곳곳에서 이웃을 위해 묵묵히 힘쓰는 사람들의 삶은 군민에게 위로와 희망, 그리고 함께 살아가는 공동체의 가치를 일깨워주고 사진이라는 매체를 통해 전해지는 이들의 진심은 단순한 기록을 넘어 우리 모두의 이야기로 확장하고 기록한 전시이다.

This exhibition documents the lives of people working in volunteer programs across Yeongwol’s nine towns and townships. Hold My Warm Hand was conceived to shine a light on the helping hands that are always with us—yet often overlooked—and to share their warmth with the wider community.
The exhibition captures the everyday lives of a range of individuals—participants in self-reliance programs, local volunteers, and field workers—visually expressing a message of empathy and solidarity through the themes of care, independence, and devotion.

Yeongwol County Photographers Exhibition presents works by local photographers who document the lives of Yeongwol’s residents and the region’s natural beauty. This documentary-style exhibition captures the past, present, and future of Yeongwol through photography.
Titled Yeongwol, 藝人, this year’s edition spotlights artists working across diverse creative disciplines in the region.
These local practitioners—deeply embedded in their communities—are portrayed by Yeongwol-based photographers who share the conviction: “We shape and tend our town with our own hands.” The project seeks to preserve and celebrate their ongoing presence and artistic contributions.

강원특별자치도와 영월에 거주하는 청소년과 사진애호가들이면 누구나 참여할 수 있는 포토저널리즘 워크숍으로, 저명한 전•현직 포토저널리스트들과 함께 매스미디어 현장의 실무를 직접 체험해볼 수 있는 현장 중심의 교육 프로그램이다.
사진 촬영 기초부터 편집, 인터뷰, 기사 작성에 이르기까지 언론 보도의 전 과정을 실습을 통해 배워볼 수 있으며, 보도사진의 사회적 역할과 윤리에 대한 이해를 넓히고 스스도의 시선으로 세상을 바라보는 법을 익히게 된다.

This photojournalism workshop is open to all youth residing in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Yeongwol, offering a hands-on educational program that allows participants to experience real-world practices in the field of mass media alongside renowned current and former photojournalists.
Participants will gain practical skills across the full process of news reporting—from the basics of photography to editing, interviewing, and article writing—while deepening their understanding of the social role and ethical responsibilities of photojournalism, and learning how to view the world through their own lens.
This workshop will serve as a meaningful opportunity for local youth to raise their voices and share their perspectives with society through the power of media and photography.

영월 사진기행은 국내의 여러 사진 단체가 개막식 당일, 하루 동안 영월의 주요 출사지 및 관광지를 촬영하여 일반 풍경 사진이나 영월 역사를 품은 사진을 제출한다. 올해는 역사가 있는 사진기행으로 주제는 조선 후기 방랑 시인이자 천재 시인인 김삿갓의 발자취다. 영월 김삿갓면을 중심으로 난고 김삿갓문학관에서 해설사와 함께하는 사진 촬영 기행이다.

The Yeongwol Photo Tour brings together photography groups and clubs from across the country for a one-day shoot held on the festival's opening day. Participants explore Yeongwol's key sites and scenic landmarks, submitting works that range from sweeping landscapes to images woven with the region's historical texture.
This year's program takes a more historically resonant turn, tracing the footsteps of KIM SATGAT-wandering poet and brilliant literary figure of late Joseon. The tour centers around Kim Satgat-myeon in Yeongwol and culminates in a guided visit to the Nangok Kim Satgat Literature Museum, led by a cultural docent.

영월군 상업사진가들이 진행하는 가족사진 촬영 이벤트다. 가족 사진에 대한 새로운 문화를 정착하고 동강국제사진제를 체험할 수 있는,누구나참여할수있는군민중심의 문화행사이다. 희망 가족들의 사전 신청을 통해 진행되며, 촬영된 가족사진 작품들은 전시를 개최한 후 가족들에게 전달한다.
청정 강원특별자치도의 환경과 생태, 역사와 문화를 직접 체험하고 탐구하여 사진으로 기록하는 <Green 다큐 프로젝트-틴틴포토>는 강원특별자치도와 영월 청소년을 대상으로 진행되는 사진 공모전이다. 청소년의 사진 기록을 통해 지역의 새로운 사진 문화 콘텐츠를 구축하고, 모두 함께 어울려 즐기는 동강국제사진제를 지향하고자 한다.

Happy Family Album is a delightful event where local commercial photographers in Yeongwol join forces to capture beautiful family photos. It seeks to create a unique culture of family photography during the festival, inviting all members of the community to participate. Interested families can make reservations to have their photos taken, and afterwards, the cherished family portraits will be donated to the families as a heartfelt memento after the exhibition.
This is a photo contest specifically aimed at the younger residents of Gangwon State and Yeongwol-gun. It's primary goal is to shine a spotlight on the Yeongwol County by encouraging the participants to create a compelling visual narratives that document its environment, eco system, history, and culture. With the subtitle <Green Documentary Project - Youth View: Yesterday and Bright Tomorrow>, our contest seeks to build a new body of photographic content that communicate Gangwon State's essence while showcasing the submitted works from young talents. Also, we wish to create an inclusive festival where everyone can come together and celebrate the beauty of Gangwon State and Yeongwol.
